Description

Vilon is a synthetic dipeptide bioregulator consisting of the sequence Lys-Glu (KE), developed by the Khavinson group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in Russia. Originally identified through fractionation of thymalin (the Khavinson group’s complex thymic extract preparation), Vilon belongs to the same “Khavinson cytomedin / cytogen” class as Thymogen (EW dipeptide, also thymic) and the longer Khavinson tetrapeptides (Epithalon AEDG, Cortagen AEDP, Cartalax AEDL). Vilon is proposed to function through tissue-specific gene expression modulation in thymic and immune cell populations. The compound has been investigated in Russian academic literature (Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine; Khavinson, Anisimov, Kuznik, and colleagues) for thymic cell biology, lymphocyte differentiation markers, chromatin structure research, and age-associated cellular research endpoints in preclinical research models. Vilon is one of the smallest characterized peptides in the Khavinson catalog (just 2 amino acids) and is often paired with Thymogen in comparative SAR research due to their related thymic origin and contrasting amino acid composition.

Benefits (Research Focus)

β€’ Thymic cell biology research β€” studied for short-peptide bioregulator effects on thymocyte and T-lymphocyte cell populations

β€’ Lymphocyte differentiation β€” investigated for T-cell maturation marker expression in cell culture research models

β€’ Chromatin structure research β€” explored for short-peptide effects on chromatin accessibility and gene expression endpoints

β€’ Khavinson SAR research β€” examined alongside Thymogen (EW dipeptide) for comparative dipeptide structure-activity studies

β€’ Age-associated cellular research β€” researched for thymic cell biology endpoints in aged tissue research models

What Researchers Look At

β€’ T-lymphocyte differentiation markers (CD3, CD4, CD8) in thymocyte cell research

β€’ Gene expression panels in thymic and immune cell research models

β€’ Comparative pharmacology versus Thymogen (Glu-Trp / EW) and other Khavinson peptides

β€’ Dipeptide stability, pharmacokinetics, and peptidase resistance research

β€’ Aged-tissue versus young-tissue model responses in comparative thymic cell research
