Description
TB-500 (commonly used as the product name for Thymosin Beta-4 / TΞ²4) is a naturally occurring 43-amino-acid peptide first identified in calf thymus extracts in the 1960s and characterized as a major intracellular actin-sequestering protein. Thymosin Beta-4 is the most abundant member of the Ξ²-thymosin family in mammalian cells and functions primarily through G-actin binding, regulating actin polymerization dynamics critical for cell migration, cytoskeletal remodeling, and tissue organization. The peptide has been investigated in preclinical research models for its effects on wound healing, angiogenesis, fibroblast and endothelial cell migration, anti-inflammatory signaling, and cardiac repair. Research interest extends to corneal and dermal repair, ischemic injury recovery, and the bioactive N-terminal tetrapeptide fragment (Ac-SDKP) released through TΞ²4 proteolysis. TB-500 is one of the most extensively studied actin-binding peptides in regenerative biology.
